Colorado Concussion Law

Colorado's concussion legislation, known as the Jake Snakenberg Youth Concussion Act was signed into law Tuesday, March 29, 2011 and takes effect  Jan. 1, 2012.

The law will require:

  • youth athletes between the ages of 11-18 must be immediately removed from a game or practice if a concussion is suspected

  • athletes will need written medical clearance to return to play

  • athletic trainers can supervise the return-to-play protocol after medical clearance is obtained

  • coaches must receive annual concussion training, including private non-profit volunteer coaches (Little League, Pop Warner, etc)
