Rhode Island's concussion law was signed by Gov. Carcieri and became effective July 7, 2010. The main provisions apply to school districts and athletes age 19 and younger:

The Rhode Island Dept. of Health, Dept. of Education, and the Rhode Island Interscholastic League (RIIL) are tasked with providing concussion education for coaches, parents, and athletes. |

Rhode Island residents have access to concussion-specific medical care at the following locations:

Donna Mello and her son 18-yr-old Dylan of Portsmouth, RI, brought the concussion issue to their local legislator Rep. Ray Gallison, who soon after, drafted the bill which became the current law. Dylan suffered three sports-related concussions over the course of 10 months, and the impact on the Mellos was tremendous. Dylan and his family have worked tirelessly to promote concussion awareness in and around the state.
