Maryland has a new concussion law signed by Gov. Martin O'Malley on May 19, 2011.
Related news: Senate Bill 771 Education- Student-Athletes- Concussions Assigned to Education, Health, and Environmental Affairs Chairwoman, Senator Joan Carter Conway Introduced Feb. 4, 2011, this bill would require the State Department of Education to develop policies and education programs on the nature of concussions for coaches, school staff, parents and athletes. Provisions include removal from a game or practice, any student-athlete suspected of having sustained a concussion, and requires the student-athlete to obtain written medical authorization before being allowed to return to play. County boards of education would be required to provide a concussion information sheet to parents and athletes.
