Jean Rickerson, Founder and Editor

Jean's 16-year-old son suffered a concussion during a high school football game in 2008, and as he sat on the bench for 45 minutes losing his eyesight and his hearing, he was unable to tell anyone what was happening due to his injury. She learned through his four-month recovery just how widespread the lack of concussion education was. Unable to find the resources she needed, Jean created the SportsConcussions.org website as a guide to help others.

As a video professional she produced on-camera interviews with former Secretary of Education, William Bennett, Senator Robert Packwood, Vice-Presidential candidate Jack Kemp, Super Bowl MVP Timothy Smith, and Vice Admiral Roger Bacon, Asst. Chief of Naval Operations. Jean co-authored several articles for Sea Technology magazine, and has been honored in Who’s Who in America 1997, and Who’s Who in American Women 1995-1996. She was recently mentioned in USA Today (4/18/11),  The New York Times (9/22/10), the Peninsula Daily News, the Kitsap Sun, and the Sequim Gazette.

Ms. Rickerson was a speaker at the WA State TBI Conference in Seattle, and was a guest on the one-hour "Todd Ortloff Show" on KONP radio. One of her feature stories was recently included on Talk Radio 1370AM, Austin, TX, KIST-AM Santa Barbara, CA, KQSN-FM Yakima, WA, and KYYW-AM, Abilene, TX. She is part of the SafeKids USA youth safety campaign and her story recently appeared in Youth Fitness Magazine. Jean is the WA State family representative for the Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC) Program which is part of the Children's National Medical Center in Washington DC, and sits on the Washington State TBI Council Conference Planning Committee. She holds a BS from the Univ. of Maryland.
