The "Evolution" of NFL safety measures
The NFL's 60-second spot that aired during the third quarter of the Super Bowl introduced the league's new website that focuses on the game's evolution and safety measures that have been implemented over the years. The ad, produced by the director of "Friday Night Lights," opened...A concussion is a brain injury that can occur in any sport. The good news is most of them heal within a short period of time, like any other sports-related injury. But what makes concussions unique is that they are invisible and it's hard to know exactly when an injured brain has completely healed. So take all the time you need, and be patient. It's not worth the risk.

Why it Matters
“We join the NFL and the NCAA in calling for concussion legislation in all remaining states. We've seen remarkable improvement in safety on the field and standards of care after laws are passed. Athletes need to be removed from play if a concussion is suspected, and not allowed to return to activity until they receive permission from a medical provider trained in the diagnosis and management of concussion. The laws make a tremendous difference."
